  • Sole Taiwanese campaign finalists in all categories
  • Finalists in a total of four fields
  • Winners will be announced on April 20 in the US Eastern Time Zone

Covestro Taiwan announced today that both its Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp and its MagicMaterial School campaigns are finalists in the renowned American PR News 2022 Social Impact Awards. The campaigns were nominated in four fields: “Diversity & Inclusion Series”, “In-House Diversity and Inclusion Campaign”, “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on a Shoestring Budget”, and “Campaign by a Non-US Based Company”. The final winners will be announced on April 20 in the US. The global social impact judges committee of PR News consists of a group of experts in diversity, equity, inclusion, and CSR. PR News points out that the unique inspiring, innovative, diverse, and impactful nature of both the “Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp” and the “MagicMaterial School” has won the approval of the judges panel.

“We are delighted that our ‘Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp’ and the ‘MagicMaterial School’ in Taiwan have been listed as finalists for many awards in the Global Impact Awards and favored by the PR News judges panel” said Julia Xiang, Head of APAC Communications & Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I). “DE&I is a core culture at Covestro. The future of children and the whole society depends on the attitude of acceptance of DE&I values. We hope to spread the value of DE&I far and deep, through fun science education CSR events.”

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are key elements of Covestro’s culture, and heavily influence the direction in which Covestro develops science education activities in Taiwan. We have developed two CSR events stemming from this concept. The first series is the Covestro MagicMaterial School, aimed at schools for the hearing-impaired around Taiwan. The objective is to protect science as a human right, offering equal right to education to the hearing-impaired students in their schools, which lack science education resources. The school hosts activities in which general students and hearing-impaired students can interact with each other, which inspires the children’s curiosity in science. Learning through transposition allows kids without impairments to familiarize and respect differences within other communities during the process, and recognize that every person has infinite potential. The other series is the “Grandparent-Grandchild Science Camp”. It is held in three locations in Taiwan and tailored for grandparents and grandchildren. The camp offers a new spin on education CSR, bringing grandparents and grandchildren closer together and promoting lifelong learning and cross-generation relationships.
